According to sources, criminal proceedings have already been initiated against Mondlane and his supporters for the offences of setting fire to a police station and possession of a firearm.
The police also accuse Mondlane of acts that caused confusion among the population in the district of Moma, and in the northern province of Nampula.
The events, according to the information, took place last Sunday, when the Chalaua police station was set on fire, which, together with other vandalism, left 21 members of the police wounded, one dead and the destruction of three vehicles and two houses belonging to the uniformed officers.
According to the results published by the National Elections Commission (CNE), the ruling Daniel Chapo won the presidential elections with 70.67 per cent of the votes.
Meanwhile, the opposition, led by Mondlane, rejected the results, which still have to be validated by the Constitutional Council by 5 November.
Meanwhile, Mozambique’s newly elected president, Daniel Chapo, called for dialogue and calm after the announcement of his victory in the recent elections in Mozambique.
Chapo stressed that it is not through street protests that Mozambique develops, but through peace, dialogue, harmony, security and conversation.
